Dear Looking for the Best Summer Ever,
Thanks for an amazing question. Summer activities will vary based on where you live, but here's some things to consider when looking for things to do:
- Check with your town's recreation department. They usually host a lot of summer programs, like concerts, fairs, even some classes for painting, dancing, or similar things. Also, sometimes the recreation department will hire teens and young adults to help with summer camps for younger kids. This would be a very fun way to make money without feeling like you're doing work.
- Get online and check out quirky festivals in nearby towns. If you're in love with garlic, google Garlic festivals near [hometown] and see if there are any you can attend. You can try this with nearly any object or hobby to try to find free entertainment nearby.
- Check if your local library has any summer events. Some libraries will have reading competitions with prizes, or guest speakers. (Also, keep in mind that these continue throughout the year sometimes, so always visit a library if you're bored.)
- Another reading activity you could try would be finding a few friends to start a book club with. Maybe you would want to read books with movies or TV shows and then all watch the movie together one night.
- Learn a new hobby. There's lots of tutorials online for everything from painting to knitting, acting techniques to writing a screenplay. Whatever project you've been wanting to do for awhile, take some time to do it.
- If you really can't find anything to do, plan your own event. Host a party for your friends and make s'more together.
The most important thing about summer isn't what you do, it's who you do it with that you'll most remember. Remember, not everything has to be Instagram worthy to make it a really fun event.
Your loving sister and fellow cellist in the tuba section,
Giselle
