Romans 12:2 Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. (ESV)
Deuteronomy 6:5-9 You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise. You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates. (ESV)
Philippians 4:8 And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise. (NLT)
When I was growing up, I helped with my parents' boarding kennel for dogs. Sometimes, these dogs would get stressed because they were in a strange place, and they would refuse to eat for a few days. Then, they'd eventually get hungry and eat their food again, but sometimes they would be so hungry that they'd try to eat poop, grass, and rocks in the fenced in yard we had to let them out in. Obviously, these were not good things to be eating.
How often do we feed our minds junk when we get stressed? Do you ever work for a long time on a project and then let yourself get lost in Instagram explore or bingewatch a TV show that doesn't have the greatest content.
Well, that's the equivalent of eating rocks, grass, and poop. We need to fill our minds on God's word with a consistent diet of scripture. God designed us to require his word. If we aren't consistently meditating on it and reading it, we'll fill our minds with ideas that are neither true nor healthy.
So feed your mind by spending time reading God's word and memorizing it. That will keep you fuller longer.
